Established in 1951, IIT Kharagpur is located in West Bengal.
IIT Kharagpur is the first IIT to be established in 1951. The institute was established after India's independence in 1947 to train engineers. The institute was established as the Eastern Institute of Higher Technology in May 1950. In 2019, it was awarded the Institute of Excellence status by the Government of India.

Established in 1958,
